Chemo Curls: A Woman’s Journey in Navigating Through Life with Cancer & Lupus One Curl at a Time

Some stories are more than just about hair. They’re about healing. About hope. About strength in the face of unimaginable challenges. This is one of those stories.

Meet Nicole Trahan, a resilient mother from Texas who is walking a journey filled with unimaginable obstacles—and yet, she keeps showing up with courage, grace, and an infectious smile that reminds us all that light can still shine in the darkest moments.

Nicole was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis, a rare blood and bone marrow cancer, and also lives with Lupus and other health challenges. Life hasn’t been easy. Her days are often a blend of hospital visits, chemotherapy treatments, and managing flare-ups—physically draining and emotionally taxing. But through it all, Nicole’s determination to reclaim her life, her strength, and even her hair has remained unshaken.

When Strength Meets Serendipity

In late December 2023, a simple act of kindness sparked a powerful transformation. Nicole came across Stylist April B (April McLurkin) on social media—founder and CEO of the Hydrate Me Please natural haircare line. April was hosting a giveaway at the time, and Nicole happened to be one of the lucky winners. She received sample sizes of the Hydrate Me Please Moisture Cream and the Mega-9 Extreme Growth Oil.

Being cautious due to chemo’s effects on the immune system and skin sensitivity, April made sure to send samples first to test for any reactions. Nicole, at that time, was still grieving the loss of her once thick, luxurious hair. After a significant amount of shedding and being diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, she had made the difficult decision to cut off all her hair in August 2024. She began hiding behind wigs and headwraps, emotionally preparing herself to never see her natural hair again. So much so that she started a business called Treasured Locs & Tips in which she makes custom wig units not only for herself but other cancer patients or women who are dealing with any form of hair loss. Keep reading and we’ll link her store below.

A Second Chance at Self-Love

In October 2024, fate stepped in again—Nicole won a full-sized jar of the Moisture Cream from another giveaway. Still hesitant, she held onto the product until December, when a powerful livestream by April changed everything. It featured a breast cancer survivor who had regrown her edges within 90 days using Hydrate Me Please.

With newfound curiosity, Nicole began applying the Moisture Cream to her scalp while keeping her head covered with wraps. Her only goal? Keep her scalp healthy. She never expected anything more.

But by January 2025, something magical happened. Nicole ordered a full-sized bottle of the Mega-9 Extreme Growth Oil and began using it alongside the cream. A few weeks later, she took off her wrap—and for the first time in months, she didn’t feel her bare scalp.

Instead, she felt curls. Soft, growing curls.

In disbelief, she rushed to the mirror and ran her fingers through her head. Not only was her hair growing back, but there was no shedding—no clumps of hair falling out, no signs of the dry flakes that once covered her shoulders.

“I just stood there in awe,” Nicole shared. “I couldn’t believe it. The ‘scalp snow’ was gone. My hair was coming back. It was really working.”

More Than Just Products – A Journey to Healing

By March 2025, Nicole had regained an incredible 85% of her hair. Her scalp was healthy, her curls were returning, and her confidence was beginning to bloom once again. She no longer hides under wigs or wraps. Instead, she embraces her growing curly afro—a symbol of strength, perseverance, and healing.

This transformation wasn’t just physical. Nicole’s emotional and mental well-being began to shift. “I forget I have cancer sometimes,” she says. “I just feel like me again.”

And she’s not alone. Her family—many of whom have their own experiences with cancer —have seen her results and are now using the Hydrate Me Please line too. Even Nicole’s nurses and oncologists are amazed at her progress, cheering her on at every checkup.

A New Chapter: Ambassador & Beacon of Hope

Nicole is now a proud affiliate and ambassador of Hydrate Me Please, helping others navigate their own journeys through hair loss, chemo, and healing. Her story is rare— regaining hair while actively undergoing chemo is not something you hear about often.

But thanks to the support, guidance, and love from April B and the Hydrate Me Please community, Nicole is now walking in faith and freedom, ready to show the world her curls, her strength, and her unwavering hope.

If you or someone you love is currently undergoing chemo or navigating post-chemo hair regrowth, we invite you to explore the Hydrate Me Please system.
