Gladys West is an American mathematician who is best known for her work on the development of the Global Positioning System (GPS).

West was born in Virginia in 1930 and grew up on a farm. She earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Virginia State University in 1952 and later went on to earn a master's degree from the same institution.

West worked for the U.S. Naval Weapons Laboratory for over 40 years, where she was responsible for developing and analyzing data from satellite observations of the Earth's surface.

In 2018, West was inducted into the Air Force Space and Missile Pioneers Hall of Fame for her contributions to the development of GPS technology.

During this Women's History Month, we salute pioneer Glady West for her technological contributions!
